Teflon coated cables worth the money?
Cables are $1-$2.50, teflon cables are $7-$10, are they worth the extra money? Will they slide easier especially as they wear? Will the teflon wear off? Does the teflon protect the cable from oxidation?

I've never used them so I can't say from experience but, I've always seen them as a solution searching for a problem. My experience is that stainless steel cables used in good quality lined housing last for years and thousands of miles with no deterioration in the shifting or braking quality and they don't rust. I can't see anything functioning any better.
Perhaps serious MTB riders riding is muddy conditions might find them an improvement but I don't see them of value to road riders.

I tried teflon cables once. Didn't notice any improvement in friction and didn't use them long enough to tell about corrosion, but I doubt they can beat out stainless cables in that competition. Galvanized cables will corrode quickly on a bike used in bad weather or near the ocean. Stainless cables are only a small upcharge over galvanized and in my opinion, well worth it.

I actually used mine for three rides and went back to stainless. My brake cables were 'sticky', and after removing the teflon and installing the stainless using the same housing, the problem went away.
