removing shimano 3 speed hub

I just bought a cruiser with a shimano 3 speed hub. I thought it would be easy to change out the white walls for black until I went to take off the rear wheel. Do I need a real thin wrench or what? any help greatly appreciated.

disconnect the threaded part at the end of the cable then unscrew the lever assembly (should turn by hand)

then you can get at the nut with a normal wrench.
