1" threaded steerer tube to 1 1/8 headset?
Hi,
I'm trying to see if I can swap out my front suspension fork for another that I got in a clearance sale.. I don't know much about this, but seem to recall that there was some spacers that were sold to accomodate theis. Here are the specs from the fork: tube: 1" threaded steerer tube length: 150 millmeter, 43 mm threads fork rake: 20mm Thanks. |
at minimum you need
(1) 22.2 diameter quill stem, or a quill to threadless converter (2) headtube reducer (google on this term to buy a pair) (3) 1 inch threaded headset. |
Maybe I should have mentioned this (and I don't know if it matters) but the bike is a folding bike. It kinda looks like this except it has a front suspension fork. Here's a video of a similar one, but with suspension:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aQ_eGRYbg0 The part just above the headset folds so I don't know if I need a special part in addition. Finally, I looked at some part prices and for the 3 above, I'm looking @ $60 minimum. This fork just cost me $25. |
yeah, this kind of mismatch is rarely worth pursuing -- and your folding stem probably attaches by 1 1/8" quill which isn't going to go in the fork anyway. I saw on Downtube's web site they have new 1 1/8" suspension forks for $60.

thanks for your patience with me on this, zzyzx. I won't pursue this upgrade.
Yes, I saw that fork on the DT site. Don't want to go that route because that fork is a POS. What do you think about this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=263602_263622 do you think that would work? |
You'd have to get a bike shop to cut threads on the steer tube so it will work with your quill stem and threaded headset.

So my only additional expense would be to have the bike shop cut threads on this fork? I don't have to worry about buying any other parts (quill stem, adapters )to fit this DT bike? |
