How to pick size of 1" threaded headset?

How to pick size of 1" threaded headset?
I'm replacing a 1" threaded headset. I haven't pulled the old one off yet but am certain it's toast. Looking online for a new one I see I can pick from 26.4 or 27.0 crown. Is that going to be marked somewhere on the old one? If not, how do I know which to pick?

You pull the old crown race and measure the fork crown race seat. Newer 1" is certainly almost going to be 26.4

You sure it's 1"? By the mid-'90's, most mountain bikes were using 1 1/8" headsets except for some odd holdouts like Bridgestone.
