    Crown race recommendations?

Is there an easy way to install and/or remove a crown race without dedicated tools?

u need a piece of metal tubing or plastic tubing and use the weight of it to put the crown race. Put the crown race in (hope is the right size), slide the tubing in the fork steering tube and hit it as hard as you can until it is in. The tools does the samething after all. Obviously the piece of tube needs to be with a slight bigger diameter than the steering tube.

another way is to use a screwdriver you don't care about and use it as a nail driver of sorts to tap the crown race in.
It's easier to screw up and crack the crown race with this method, however.

For myself, I've found the steel casing of a broken floor pump mated perfectly with a worn out headset cup and this allows me to tap the crown race in very easily and without worry of cracking it. Unfortunately, it only works on 1" steerers.

for carbon forks, I would recommend you just let the shop take care of it with proper tools.
Food for thought: if you aren't dead by 2050, you and your entire family will be within a few years from starvation. Now that is a cruel gift to leave for your offspring. ;)
