Brake pad question

I took my bike into the shop because of brake noise I could not fix myself ( I am still very new to this and learning).

Anyways the LBS tried eveything and finally recommended new pads. THe problem was they did not have any road bike pads in stock that were the right size, but did have a set of mountain bike brake pades that did fit.

Except they are way longer then the original pads. And they just look funny, but is there any thing to worry about? They do stop the bike and there is no screech now.

I knew I was forgetting some important information

My bike is a road bike, Mercier Aquila with Tektro brakes and Tiagra shifters/brake levers
