Slipping Seat Post On Soma Smoothie ES Fixed!

I love my Soma Smoothie ES steel frame but for one issue. The frame comes with a built-in seat post clamp. I absolutely hate built-in seat post clamps. They invariably slip. Then you are faced with the dilemma of how much to tighten them before they break.

Rather than tighten the piss out the bolt I decided to use a paste called Tacx. It works on carbon, steel and aluminum. I cleaned the seat post with gas then spread Tacx on the entire post. Since the socket of the original bolt was eff'ed up due to repeated tightenings I bought a new 6mm bolt and torqued it down reasonably tight. It's held like a rock ever since.

I thought Billy Mays was dead.
Did you use the Shamwow to wipe the post?

Enjoy

What size seat post are you using? Perhaps it is a bit too small.

Tacx is a brand name. I assume you used the carbon assembly paste? Sort of a grease with grit in it.

Yes, you are exactly correct. The stuff is red and gritty. It works though.
