Wow, quite manual labor intensive (even the tubes)

I wonder if this manufacturing process is typical of all manufacturers? I have some Panaracers made in Japan and would assume Japanese manufacturing would be more automated.

Why is it that the products need to go to Germany for distribution? Wouldn't it be cheaper to ship to distributors straight out of the factory in Indonesia?
