Proper brake lever for SA Drum Brake?

I have a Sturmey Archer X-FDD hub floating around. The kind with the internal drum brake and dynamo.

What is the proper brake lever to use on one of these? Do I want a "short pull", like used for calipers and traditional cantis, or do I want a "long pull" like used for linear pull brakes?

I have an XRD-8 hub with a drum brake, and standard MTB (cantilever) pull is about right for it. Linear pull would be too little mechanical advantage. I suspect yours is the same.

I'm Using an Old Campag cable out the top brake lever set on my bike with Nitto Mustache Bars, have for many years ..

Avid Speed Dial levers would be Ideal in a straight bar situation as there is a range of adjustment.

I disagree about V brake , the lever arm to brake shoe spreading cam, in the brake , that ratio .. has a lot of mechanical advantage, so a V brake lever would be OK.

I tend to disagree. Most reports I have seen of lousy brake response with drum brakes have been when trying to use V brake levers. Drum brakes predate the invention of linear pull or V brakes by many years and they were designed to work with "normal" leverage ratio brake levers. Usually V brake levers will provide a nice firm feel but you will have to pull way too hard to get maximum stopping power.
