When brake shudder is not a bad thing
My recent cross build of a MTB frame/wheels with cross everything else has a unique quality. The fork is a Surly 1X1 CroMo employing V-brakes with Kool Stop salmons. They are adjusted perfectly and stop on a dime. I have noticed at high speeds, not necessarily shudder, but the potential for it. It feels like if I had a weaker fork in any respect, I'd snap the fork in half at high speeds.
I have been considering the Nashbar carbon MTB fork for looks and to take the buzz out of the road, but am concerned about how strong my brakes are. Am I being too sensitive, or would this produce a risk? I am 6'1"/180 lbs if that factors in.

Not a problem. Under braking, the front-tyre will slide or throw you over the bars well before you develop any serious forces on the fork. You may be feeling uneven rim surface or uneven rim-edges (due to hitting things).
