By all reports it works well, but depending on your application you may not need it. I am running an Ultegra 9sp cassette with 10sp Ergos and a Campy rear derailleur with no shifting issues. However if you wanted to use Ergo levers with your Dura-Ace rear der. the Shiftmate would be more necessary unless you wanted to experiment with the alternate cable routing schemes some people have cooked up.

hello
About time someone came out with the 'travel agent' for the rear derailleur! But is the cam action accurate throughout the entire range?

I do not think that that will work. all the "pulley" does is act as an idler...I don't see any Ratioing going on.....and I thought that the amount of cable movement was done in the indexed shifter. Curious

See https://www.jtekengineering.com/image...structions.pdf
The pulley is really two pulleys of slightly different diameter. The cable loops twice and crosses over from one side to the other, yielding a different pull ratio. A clever idea. Even Sheldon Brown likes it, and he has been selling mixed Shimano/Campy drivetrains for years.

Another thing I wonder is if you could mount it anywhere on the cable. it seems like it would get really dirty there. I wonder if it would be better to mount it near the handlebars to keep it cleaner.

hello
I don't think it makes any difference 'where' it's mounted.....but having it right at the derailleur seems to be the most logical spot.
It would be nice if an aftermarket company came out with an STI/ERGO type levers with a variable index rate feature built in.

Modolo?? I know the Morphos can be used on either 8 or 9 speed for instance, but will it index a Shimano cassette with a Campy derailleur or a Campy cassette with a Shimano derailleur?......I doubt it...

This little gizmo that we're talking about changes the rate/ratio of indexing........of course your shifter does the indexing. But you need to change this rate/ratio in order for cross-mix of brands, a Shimano STI, Shimano derailleur, and a stock Campy cassette for example to index properly.
