Broken Quick Release Help!!!

So i broke my quick skewer on my front tire by removing the nut the other day, but i got it back on today. However, the lever has no pressure on it when I try closing it. Is it possible to buy a new quick release or is their some quick fix like a nut from the hardware store? My bike is a Shimano mountain bike.

Get one from the bike shop. If you want to save more ask for a used one, QRs last a long time. Have a few over here that might be like 30 years old and still working fine.

1. flip the lever into the open position
2. turn the nut in a couple of turns
3. flip the lever into the closed position
4. is it tight? If not, go back to step #1

so it sounds like its not broken at all, just not adjusted...
the nut side works as an adjustment for the QR lever.
do what danno suggests, and you can turn the nut in or out to get the right pressure
when you flip the lever.

It sounds like it's not broken, just not tight enough. Knowing how to properly close a quick release is one of the most important safety skills any cyclist should know. Here's a good explanation.

what kind of skewer is it? which nut did you remove? the one at the end of the rod or the one on the acutual lever? if it is the small on on the lever sounds like you put it back together wrong.
