Shim 10-speed road components with new Shim 10-speed mtb cassette (11-34)?
YES IT'S BEEN CONFIRMED IN ANOTHER FORUM SO PLEASE DISREGARD THIS POST. THANKS
Has anybody verified that the new 10-speed mtb cassettes from Shimano work properly with the 10-speed 105 crankset and shifters?
I am currently running the IRD 10-speed 11-34, which works fine (with mtb long cage rear mech). Don't want to order the Shim 10-speed 11-34 until I know for sure there's not some subtle problem . . .
I believe in their advertising Shimano made some statement to the effect that the new 10-speed mtb stuff would "not be compatible with 10-speed road components" or something.
Thanks

New 10-speed MTB REAR DERAILLEURS (marked as Dyna-Sys) are not compatible with road shifters because the cable pull has changed. The new 10-speed MTB cassettes are completely compatible, just use a non-Dyna-Sys rear derailleur to shift the chain. Also, Shimano recommends using the matching chain with the new 10-speed MTB cassettes, but this is probably only necessary if you want super-smooth shifts, I expect it will work with any 10-speed Shimano/SRAM chain.
Unfortunately, the non-Dyna-Sys MTB rear derailleurs might not be able to handle the 36-tooth cog that is on some of the new cassettes, but since you were asking about one with only a 34-tooth cog then you should be OK.

Just an FYI:
I have a Dyna-Sys XT RD here, (not mounted), and just playing around with it and roughly measuring the cable travel in comparison to an RD-M592 (which we know works with the 10s mtn cassette & road shifters), I would say the Dyna-Sys cable travel is easily *double* the travel of the RD-M592.

Interestingly this new SLX 10-speed cassette HG81 does not come with the 1mm spacer for the freehub body. So I robbed another wheel and installed the cassette with a 1mm spacer. The lockring would only go on a couple of rotations--something wrong.
I was under the impression that all shimano 10-speed cassettes require the 1mm spacer, but this is clearly an exception. So beware--it would be very easy to strip the lockring threads if you install this jewel with a 1mm spacer.

Also--the rivets holding the biggest cogs to the spider protrude toward the spokes enough that I had to remove my dork disk as it was binding. Actually, it seems as though the whole deal would be better with the 1mm spacer in place--except that the lock ring would not screw on properly. I doublechecked Shimanos tech docs and sure enough no spacer.
