Looking for a truing stand alignment tool (Spin Doctor)
 

I bought a Spin Doctor wheel truing stand from Performance last year and have been generally satisfied with it. Only thing I want to improve on it is on setting it up for alignment (centering the feeler gauges) before building or truing a wheel on it. I can eventually align it by using a good front wheel on it but it would be really nice if I have a tool that I can quickly touch up the alignment with and also help me avoid from having to flip the wheels to check for alignment during the build or truing. They used to sell an alignment tool for the stand but they seem to have discontinued it. Can anyone point me towards another alignment tool that might be available out there? Some out there had stated that the Spin Doctor stand is actually a Minoura stand with a different label on it. Anyone know if Minoura sells an alignment tool for it?

I agree. Get a good dish guage like the Park WAG-4. I have a Minoura stand and I've found that it's too flimsy for accurate centering.

I just use the dishing gage , as a double check after flipping the wheel over, a few times.

I also use a dish guage and it makes for a better job.

Dish guage will certainly work, but I do want something that will center the truing stand before I start working on the wheel so at least it get me close to final centering/dishing quicker. I found some info in the internet about Park tools part number 1554-1 that supposedly comes with their truiong stand. What's weird thoug is it only emulates a rear wheel so spacing will most likely be at least 126mm at the axle end of the tool. It will be nice if I find something that have both 126 (I'm a C&Ver) and 100mm spacing at the axle end of the centering tool so I can center the stand for both front and rear wheel jobs. I may try to just make something from scratch with some old axles, nuts, QRs and steel rod or bar stock...... I'll check out the Park tool first then maybe consder making a custom tool for myself.
It will really be nice if I don't have to remove the wheel from the stand to maintain proper dishing.

All you need for centering your truing stand is a fine marker and an accurate ruler or measuring tape.
-Make a mark at the exact same location inside your wheel holding (WH) arms. At the base of the notch works well.
-Bring your WH arms to the spacing that you wish.
-Measure from one of the marks on the WH arm to the opposite caliper.
-Do the same for for the other side.

If the measurements are the same then you are one the money. If they differ, then you need to adjust it.

I just adjusted an old Park TS-2 that way with excellent results. Even so, I still use a dishing tool for more accuracy. Park Tool even says quite clearly to use a dishing tool when you use the 1554-1.
