Internet bicycle shop in Canada?
 

I look at bicycle shops on the internet, but they are often in the USA or Europe.
Do you know of any in Canada?

Shipping charges and brokerage fees make small orders from out of the country suppliers too expensive.

I like supporting LBSs but internet stores are good for unusual and expensive items that the LBSs don't keep in stock.

We don't do internet orders at our shop but will occasionally add special orders to our regular order which reduces shipping costs... down the road we might looking at doing some internet based sales.

Nifty, haven't seen this place before.


The best place I found is to order from Jenson USA, they include taxes in your order so you get stuff to your door and do not have to pay extra taxes or duty.

Honestly I don't see a problem with paying taxes/duty. I order from Chain Reaction all the time, my last order was over $400, free shipping, and the taxes/duty came to $38. I saved a ton of money considering my local shops want $50 for items that cost $20 at Chain Reaction. I am all for supporting local but I sometimes think prices are a bit, well a lot, inflated.

Almost all the major USA shops now offer reasonable shipping to Canada, and you only have to pay taxes and sometimes small duty fee on the stuff.

Aquakitty, we don't pay duty on "sporting equipment" but we do pay the PST and GST. That was your $38. The kicker comes when the vendor uses Fedex or UPS instead of the US Postal Service. Those two carriers dump on some hefty brokerage fees to handle cross border shipments. It's that charge that can greatly increase the cost.

Those of us near the border can take advantage of the shipment receiving services along the border towns to use for accepting Fedex and UPS shipments and avoid the brokerage fees. But the OP is in Victoria and the ferry ride to come and pick up the stuff would kill any savings big time.

Skilsaw, if you come over to the mainland on a decently regular basis anyway you could still use the shipment receivers. They typically will hold your packages for up to 3 months. This would mean you'd need to plan more in advance but if you make it over every couple of months for something else unrelated then you could do a side trip to Point Roberts to pick up your shipments. You then claim them all at the border. They are used to Ebay and US online shopping pickup regulars at Point Roberts and as long as you have all your receipts and Paypal info showing auction numbers and payments or invoices that the online suppliers send to you ready it's generally quite trouble free. Mind you the whole process makes it hard to be spontanious.... :D
