Double or Triple Brifters?

I feel kind of like an idiot for not being able to work this out... Here it goes...

I have a set of Shimano RSX brifters - how can I tell if the front is a double or triple? Thanks.

double 3 clicks triple 4 clicks the extra click on each is for a trim position. At least this is how it is on all the modern brifters I've used

IIRC they can be used for either double or triple

On the RSX shifters, the triple shifter only has 2 clicks and the double only has one click. These shifters didn't have trim clicks like the newer shifters. .

Shimano triple shifters work with a double but not well. Campy shifters work perfect with either double or triple.
