Shimano STI shifter faceplate/black plastic won't go back on

Take a look. Anybody have any idea on how to get this thing back on here? The $*&#@!@#@#!@ spring seems to be in the way. Picture included.

Both are non-functional pieces. The faceplate cover which shows the red flag and the black plastic that attaches to it.

Heres a better picture! please help! This is the same part as my tiagra 9 speeds but I reckon it gos on the same way or at least now you guys know what I'm talking about. I think it's called the front cover unit?

Shimano faceplates are notorious for not being able to be put back on. In fact, my left one is loose on my brifter....and it's going to stay that way. Unfortunately, that's all I've got for ya.
