My vote is for Arundel Gecko Grip bar tape. It gets grippier as you sweat and you can find it for 10 bucks some places.

I've used the Cinelli cork, fizik gel (comfy but UGLY silver that came on bike), Microtex & MavX gel/cork tape. I must say out of all I prefer the MAvX tape. Comfortable & good grip. Cinelli as a second pick.

I like Cinelli Cork because of the huge color an design options, but any brand of cork tape is good.
I also have a bike with leather bar wrap which I also like and it lasts far longer then cork.
I like cloth tape for vintage as well, but usually what I do is I wrap the bar with cork then re-wrap with the cloth to give the cloth some cushion to it.
But one of my vintage touring bikes I have Brooks leather wrap to match the Brooks saddle, it looks great, but you have to buy both at the same time because you want them both to age at the same time so the coloring doesn't look odd.
By the way, I use non adhesive, but some people like adhesive because it stays on if they should do a less then perfect job of putting the tape on. Most people don't like adhesive due to the sticky residue left on the bar when they have to replace the tape. That stuff comes off easily though with rubbing alcohol. So it's a non issue.

I like the non-adhesive kind cuz I like to mess about with my fit and it's easier to re-wrap the bar. I also like bright colours and I really don't like dirty tape so I replace it every 2-3 months or so...so it doesn't matter so much how long it lasts. But...I like the Shimano brand tape I used last time pretty well.

Green Grips is adhesive-backed. I prefer it to Newbaum's because of the width.

Question: What cloth tape do you use? I only use cloth and it's hard for me to find. So far my favorite is Green Grips (www.greengrips.org).
