is this wheel unrepairable? Mavic Cosmic

Seems like a good deal, but i don't think with carbon it'd be a good idea. I am also skeptical of any warranty options if i were to pick these up and be 2nd owner |
Run away fast.
A wheel failure can be catastrophic. Makes you wonder what made the nipple pull through. |
As a second owner, you probably have absolutely no warranty whatsoever. Avoid these like the plague.

Those aren't carbon rims, they're alloy rims with a carbon non-structural fairing.
I have a set of thos that I bought new in 1998. After several years a nipple broke in the rear wheel. The dealer sent it to MAVIC for repair but they said the wheel could not be repaired and replaced the wheel at cost, $400. The warranty was only good for 2 years. The wheels shown are 1st generation Carbones, like mine. Probably at least 10 years old. If you want the front wheel it's probably worth $200 to use in time trials or triathlons. The aerodynamics are pretty good but these wheel are heavy, not so good for daily use. I rarely use mine. |
