Cassette options
What cassettes am I limited to with my 2010 Cannondale Synapse Carbon 5? Will a 28 work as is? It has a 105 rear derailleur.

Yes, Shimano's specs are consevative. You should be able to use a 28 cog with a Shimano road rear deraileur. You should also consider the chain wrap capacity, but their wrap capacity limits are also conservative.
