Shimano 105 Pedal - Toe Clip
Hey,
I have a pair of the Shimano 105 Pedal (from the late 80s/early 90s). Recently the plastic toe clip broke. I have already had to replace it before. I know that you can buy plastic replacements, i.e. here:
https://www.amazon.com/Shimano-RX100-...147917&sr=1-53
The plastic breaks so easily, is there any metal alternative that would fit on the 105 pedal?
Thanks,

They may prove hard to find... I've modified metal clips for normal pedals to fit the Shimano ones.
It doesn't have to be pretty; the end is clamped out of sight.

The metal clips are the way to go, but almost impossible to find. For the price of the plastic ones on Amazon, I would just replace them with the plastic clips and call it good. The metal clips bring quite a bit when they show up on ebay.
Next time I need clips, I am probably just going to modify regular metal clips. +1 It won't be pretty, but functionally it should work just fine.

Honestly, how many people out here have broken a plastic clip, and how many have broken a metal clip? I know that I've gone through twice as many metal clips than plastic.
Of course, metal does look much better.
As noted, the metal clips are impossible to find for less than the price of a new bike. Live with plastic, it's not that bad.

I ended up just ordering a new pair of plastic toe clips, came out to $18, including new nylon straps (my current ones are really old and falling apart). I was thinking about getting an entire new pair of pedals but i really like my Shimano 105s. Thanks for all the help and replies!

I found the plastic ones just don't last; they wear out surprisingly quickly where the strap goes through, just from the occasional scrape on the ground.

These look pretty nice. Buy the clips and get a couple of 600 pedals complete with end caps free.

Wow, i didn't think so many people used toe clips. Thought i was an outlier. I've yet to wear out a pair of plastic or nylon clips, and they are equally functional. Some fit my shoes better than others. My 1981 Raleigh still has the original metal, but they're pretty rusty.

Mountain Equipment Coop in Canada sells these metal clips. I didn't follow the whole thread but noticed something about metal ones being hard to get. No idea about US customers, you need to be a member of Coop but perhaps you can become one as part of online order, I think it is like one time (lifetime) $5 fee.

The Shimano 105 pedal uses a proprietary three-bolt toeclip, similar to those on old Dura-Ace pedals:

Shimano 600EX, Ultegra, Dura Ace EX and the older 600 AX and Dura Ace AX triangular pedals all used three-hole metal toe-clips.
They can be found on Ebay.
Cheers
