Front cantilever brake cable routing?

Any tips for routing the brake cable on a front cantilever with the headset cable stop (w/barrel aduster, not the bent platic piece) and modern, under-the-tape brake levers?

I mean, other than having sharp bends and just dealing with it

If you have the stem set low , close down on top of the headset,
you can open up the housing curve
by routing the cable up and over the stem and down the opposite side,
rather than the shortest route with the cable running beneath,
and needing a quite sharp curve.

Nokon or a similar, segmented metal bead and tube housing ,
is said to handle tighter curves better ,
but it will be more expensive than conventional housing.

I run mine over the stem and down into the cable stop on my cross bike. I don't have a good picture it, sorry.

Edit: Found one.

Ditto on over-the-stem routing when you don't have spacers between the stem and cable hanger. You can offset the cable hanger slightly to one side to avoid kinking the housing with your stem. If you want to buy more parts, there are a few companies that make long-drop cable hangers that'll buy you an extra centimeter or so.

You could also use a fork-mounted cable hanger like this https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...jsp?spid=47409 to allow a more gradual curve of the cable housing.

I have used a v-brake" noodle on several bikes. provides a nice smooth bend with a plastic liner.

You mean connect the brake housing to the noodle so that the end of the noodle where the cable exits goes into the barrel adjuster on the headset hanger? Does it fit into the hanger properly? My intention would be to still use the barrel adjuster on the hanger.

Hmm....more ideas.

Yes a V brake noodle work very nicely for this and does allow you to use your adjustment barrel when needed.

Nothing says that the housing can't exit a bar tape wrap or two earlier than the final securing tape. I've done it that way and it worked out just fine. However I do like the over the stem option. That would open up the bend radius even more.
