Giant Defy bottom backet compatbility? Going triple to double...

Hey guys, first post here so thanks in advance for any/all help.

I have a Giant Defy 3 that I've never been quite happy about the gearing with. I found a good deal on a very lightly used 105 double (53/39) crankset and bottom bracket.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the bottom bracket sizing. From what I've been able to find, my Defy 3 uses a 68x113 square taper bracket. The "new" one comes with a 68x109 (maybe 109.5 actually?) octalink. Will fitting this be a problem?

    Thanks for the input.

Edit: I guess I should have searched first - I'm thinking that it wouldn't be a problem, but could someone just verify that?

octalink and square taper axle lengths do not mean the same thing, if that's what you're asking.
the 109.5mm axle on octalink is for doubles, while the 118mm is for triples, no exceptions.
The only thing to watch out for are the V1/V2 versions.
Food for thought: if you aren't dead by 2050, you and your entire family will be within a few years from starvation. Now that is a cruel gift to leave for your offspring. ;)

Yes, I gathered that the measurements were different between the two types.

So as long as I'm replacing the crank with a BB that will fit it (octalink) and my frame takes a 68mm BB, it will work, correct?

In other words, the 68mm part fits your frame, the 113mm/118/109 fits the crank.

    Thanks again.
