25.4 seatpost for my road bike

So I recently built a road bike using a Raleigh frame. At the time, I just wanted to finish he bike so I put on a really really cheap crappy steel seat post (it was free). However, now, I really want to swap that out. I know 25.4 is a weird size for a road seatpost, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I am looking at the Thomson elite, but its a bit pricey and I wonder if it's worth $90 just for a seatpost. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

25.4mm is pretty common mtb size.

I've got a Thomson for my bike with a 25.4 sesatpost (Waterford) and love it. Many people here think Thomson is the best post made. It's very easy to adjust and the adjustments can be very fine.

thomson makes, imo, the nicest seatposts. Many ppl share this opinion. But, if you're the type of rider who has a bike that takes a 25,4mm post, you might not want to drop $90, at least not on that bike. For around $20, you can find 25.4 kalloy uno's, which are aluminum, internally ovalized for strength, and fairly decent in terms of adjustability. Never had one fail, myself. The finish varies among a couple of different versions, but the silver one i got is all "sparkly"/jenk looking. You can also get the kalloy sp-200 in a 25.4. These are aluminum, ovalized, and they have a nicer finish, but they are usually @$6 and are "straight" posts, where you need to buy "guts" for about $3 to affix the saddle. This makes a lot of ppl gag, but there's a very good chance that this is the set-up your bike had originally.

Kalloy ships all diameters and is only $15.. Ask @ LBS I have a Redline 1" in ChroMoly, strong when the extension needed is long. plain top no fancy built in saddle clip.

25.4mm = 1"

Cane Creek makes shims with 1" ID so you can reuse the post in later frames with bigger seat tube IDs
