Permanent Boot for Sidewall Cut?
I had a garage flat yesterday that turned out to be a big sidewall cut. I booted it by gluing in a piece of a Tyvek envelope. This is a Continental ultra gatorskin.
Do you think I need a new tire? If not, is there a way to do a more permanent boot?

A Boot by it's nature is a temporary fix, time to buy a new tire.
[particularly one that is operating at 100 psi]
Hypalon for rubber boats, Like Zodiacs .. cutting a section out of a old sewup
is a durable patch,
and Park Tool, Packages sticky Boots ...
but realistically it's just to get you Home.

Roy booted this one with a piece of rubber. Rode another 9,000 miles on it.

I use a piece of 1/32" rubber, reinforced gasket material. Super glue it in and put a piece of duct tape over the boot to keep the edges from fretting through the tube. I always run these repairs on the rear even though I have never had one fail.

And judging by the slight bulge / irregularity, you've got, the appears to be the start of a seperation / issue with the structural integrity of the tire. Get a new one. Not to be smart, but I wouldn't want to think about it every time I was carving a corner or descending a big hill. I'm no expert on bike tires, but have plenty of experience with car tires to know the sidewall is the worst place for damage.

Be a little wild. Take a chance!
Chicks really dig guys with a boot in their tire.

Guy in #3 is on a wider tire so runs at less PSI than your 23mm wide one, Al.
I got a Big Nail like that in and out my Continental Travel Contact,
but mine was a 559-47, so lower pressure yet.

It depends on how important it is for you to finish your ride. You may be able to ride a booted tire for thousands of kilometers or it may give out when you're 50km from home and all alone.
If it were me, I'd replace the tire and perhaps keep the booted tire around as a short-term spare.

Soy sauce packet. Really. Best sidewall patch I've ever used.

Replace. The savings you "gain" is less than one trip to the emergency room. Easy choice.
