Giant OCR 3 Brakes (and a wheel question)
Hi All,
My 2004 Giant OCR 3 came equipped with brake levers on the tops (in addition to the traditional levers/shifters); as this was the first road bike I've owned I originally thought they were a nice feature. However, after owning the bike for a while I'd like to take them off.
The levers on the bars are Tektro RX 2.0, and the brakes themselves are Tektro dual pivot brakes.
I'm not sure exactly what I will need to do to remove them, though; it seems that they should be easy enough to remove from the bars as they are just screwed on. I also assume that I should be able to disconnect the brake cable at the levers and slide them off of the line, but I don't know if I'm going to have to replace the brake lines and cable housings entirely or whether I can just shorten the lines a little and retape everything? Also, will I need to install some sort of barrel adjusters near the bars? It seems like the ones near the brakes should do just fine, but I'd like to make sure .
Thanks for the help!
John
PS - While I'm here I have one other quick question ... one of my wheels has a slightly bent spoke that seems to not be as tensioned as tightly as the rest of them ... the wheel trues just fine and because it is in true my LBS told me not to worry about any bent spokes or tension imbalances ... is this good advice?

I'm bumping this up to the top because I would like to hear about taking of those extra brake levers on the top bars as well.

Disconnect the cables at the brakes and pull them back out. Remove the interrupter levers. You will have to either replace the housing (which will require re-taping your bars) or get a junction ferrule from your LBS. Since the bike is fairly new, you shouldn't need to replace the cables unless they're frayed and you can't get them through the housing.
