Rear Fender Installation
 

Not sure if pictures will suffice, but what is the proper way to install this portion of the rear fender onto the bike? Someone was helping me out, and was unable to figure out and I don't see a very clear way of doing so in the pictures provided with the fender.

They are Giant Splendor Full Wrap fenders.

if you don't use a kickstand the part shown clips onto the bridge (short tube) between the cainstays behind the bottom bracket. If you use a kickstand you will probably need to remove the clip and use zip ties through the slot.

According to the pictures, that is where it appears to go. The part of the fender that looks like the part I showed, is shown near this part of the bike, clipped on. Only there doesn't seem to be a way to clip it on or on the bike some way, and I have no kickstand.

I am able to clip it on here though but that is not the way the fender is to be oriented according to the picture.

It looks like you have a 5mm hole in the chainstay bridge (the flat on, not the round on, that'd be the seatstay bridge). You need to cut the metal clip off of the fender and run a bolt through the fender into the small threaded hole on the bridge. Use a nice size washer if you can find one.

I recently installed fenders with the exact same mounting system as yours. Doing this:

would've put the fender way too far away from the tire. So instead I drilled a hole in the metal clip and ran a bolt through it into my chainstay bridge. Make sure to check the fit before you do any cutting, you don't want to cut the wrong part off!

In my experience, mounting fenders is always a "custom" operation, and I always have to do a fair amount of drilling, cutting, and filing to get them to fit just right.

I'd straighten the clip, drill a hole in it, and bolt it to the kickstand plate. (This is just my first idea based on your photos, I don't actually know if there is enough clearance and material to make it work.)

Thanks for all the help. We took an "L" bracket, and used some nuts and washers to put the clip behind the bottom bracket with a screw after drilling a hole in the clip. However the rear fender is not quite balanced and is too much to one side (when riding, it would be my left). There could be a problem with:

1.) the clip looks ok unless these pictures suggest otherwise.

2.) The hanger in the rear looks ok--the zoom level isn't the greatest as having a closer setting on the camera turns off the flash.

3.) Finally, the V-shaped look like something is off. I have pictures below that have them in a manner that should have them lined up, except they don't line up. Aside from that or the clip, I'm not sure what to adjust. I notice there is some fine adjustment in terms of where the stays are in relation to the screw before actually screwing in. But even after attempting to make this adjustment equal on each side there is still an inbalance, suggesting a stay being slightly bent at a different angle and/or something else needs to be adjusted.

Sometimes a folded piece of rubber from an old tube, wedged in the right place against the stays can straighten the fender's angle.
