Hey, Saturn-- here's your old Union lights

Finally had a chance to install the second headlamp. Pretty nice output; plenty for my purposes. At the moment I'm using my old Sanyo dynamo to power the high beam, but I'll be getting another matching Union bottle soon. Then I want to figure out a way to mount the dynos symmetrically on either side of the rear wheel in the 12 o'clock position; it's more protected and just looks better. I wouldn't imagine it'd be all that difficult to flop the spring-loaded mechanism. Need to find a 6V3W bulb for the second light, too..

Found a nice old Pletscher rear carrier for it too, and the Zefal fenders will be coming in later this week. The ol' girl's coming along.

copycat! lol! that's exactly the way my bike's set up, except my lights are mounted the other way vertically with the one on top as the high beam. the dynamos are mounted the same way too. they sell the newer basta dynamo in left/right side units & have the brackets too. i would go for one of those. check out peter white cycles, or yellow jersey cycles, or harris cyclery online for that 3 watt bulb. they all also sell some neat dynamos & mounting brackets. i bought my new hub from harris cyclery for $120.00 & worth every penny. i love it's silence when i ride too. in 20 years of riding my bike with those 2 union dynamos on the bike, when i would pedal, the dynamo mounted ahead of the frame would come close to hitting my shoe, but never did. don't the dual setup work awesome? i can't believe how bright my new 2 dynamo set-up is. i can't understand why more people don't do this. i have the b&m light & tail light connect to the hub dynamo & a seperate 3 watt off the old remaining union bottle. when i flick on the union light, i see very far down the road. even using just one light, it's very bright. that rear rack looks like the same one on my bike too. the center pull brake calipers look like mine too. i will post pictures here of my bike soon. it's done, i just have to take the pictures & load them.....

here is my 1982 huffy 10 speed & my 2002 gary fisher mountain bike pictures. both bikes are usa made. the spring-loaded rack on my 10-speed appears to be the same one on your bike. i bought it in the 80's & never seen one like that on the market again. the mountain bike has a niterider hid light system with the led tail light. it also has a union turbo dynamo, & b&m lights front & rear too. all exposed wiring put in plastic conduit for a professional appearance & i made especially sure any wiring exposed to friction is in the conduit. i put on the gel seats on both bikes & the fenders on the mountain bike. i modified the rack on the mountain bike to clear the rear disc calipers as i wanted a rear rack on that bike & nobody seemed to have one for disc brakes bikes. both bikes have computers. enjoy the pictures!:

LOL! I hope you washed that pile of shop rags on top of the washing machine.

That Huffy is drop-dead gorgeous, and you're obviously a bigger light **** than I am -- and that's saying something.

Might I suggest you go a bit further and find a 12v dynamo, then make a rectifier/charger circuit with a 6v battery? Then use 6v bulbs. The dynamo will charge the battery, and you'll have light when you stop.

I did that, and was using LEDs for all my lights (turn signals, tail/brake lights, head light). Now I've got a Night Hawk 10W headlight. I spliced into the cable for it to hook my electrical system into. Now I use the NH's charger to charge the battery, but I keep my dynamo in place in case of emergency.

lol! i use those rags to polish my bikes & car. also my 1982 kawasaki csr 305 belt driven motorcycle with 3000 original miles & in showroom condition. this is a bicycle forum though, so i can't talk about the kawasaki! oh by the way, that's my new 2001 saturn sc2 with 14.000 miles on it in the background! i'm so spoiled! yeah--i'm a freak when it comes to bikes, cars, motorcycles, ect. i polish every bit of bare metal on my vehicles, & use sealer on all the painted surfaces. only the best for my babies! the pictures don't due the bikes any justice. you should see them in person. the old bike does not look 23 years old! it was raining when i took these pictures, so i did it in the basement. i did'nt think to clear away all the junk in the background, but the pictures still came out good. you know what? i have a pair of gen 3 night vision goggles, & thought it would be a cool idea to ride at night with no lights on--just the goggles, & seeing would be no problem, but cars would not see me. the bikes have reflectores all over them, but why take a chance!

good idea, but not needed i think. my lights have the stop light feature & my mountain bike has a hid system on it. the hub dynamo is so effecient with hardly no drag & i can't imagine a better system. the lights come on by themselves because i have that light sensitive switch. when i combine both headlamps i have 5.4 watts of power & a large bright beam without worrying about batteries....

thanks! i love that 2 tone paint with the chrome lower front forks. very original. i never seen a bike a similer paint job. hmnn, i wonder what i can mount to the other dynamo bracket that is no longer in use? another dynamo with a third headlamp! the possibilities are endless! something about dynamo powered lights that i can't resist. it seems go give me motivation to ride fast to keep my lights bright, although the new system on my bike, all i have to do is walk my bike for bright lights!

I fabricated a vertical headlamp mount today from some ABS plastic I had laying around; looks better, huh? More bicycle-like. With the horizontal mount I looked like I was working my way up to tail fins.

I bought a CSR 305 for my ex-wife about 15 years ago; nice little bike. Nicer than her, as it turned out.
