    squealing brakes

I have a single speed/fixie that i ride to work and around town. The bike came with a rear brake and all it seems to do is squeal and it is loud!! It stops that bike and kinda acts like a warning to cars, but it is a painful sound to the ears.

I have changed the pads from the ones that came with it and it made it worse.

The rim is a Velocity Deep V Double Wall. The brake is just a plain'ole Radius caliper.

    What can i do????

Can you adjust the angle of the pads? Try toeing them so that the front of the pad hits the rim first. That has usually gotten rid of squeal for me. Next thing I'd do is wipe the rim down with mineral spirits or just wash it with soap and water. Sanding the brake pads can help if they look glazed.

You should also look into switching the brake to the front. It will do a whole lot more good there. Having only a rear brake on a bike (esp. a fixie) makes no sense.

Yes...basic dual pivot at the front. You can swap out the mounting bolt for front application, or buy another brake. Clean rim and pads with red Scotchbrite and wipe clean with alcohol.
