Power coat on polished luggs :-(

I just got a frameset from a Craigslist ad with some perdy polished lugs that had been powder coated. Unfortunately the people doing the powder coating didn't tape off super good. The edges are a bit ruff and there is some random fleks of color over the fork crown.

What is the best way to clean this up? Is there an abrasive strong enough to get the coating without scratching up the chrome?

I`d suggest you contact a company that specializes in powder coating and ask for advice. Show chrome is a plating - usually over a base coat of copper and if you polish your way through the chrome in an effort to clean up one mistake - you`ll just trade one problem for another.

Chrome is fairly non-stick and usually needs special primers to get paints and powder coats to stick.

You might try to use that yo your advantage and try to chip or scrape the paint off with the edge of plastic or wooden kitchen tools. On the flip side many powder coatings are very brittle so it might be difficult to get a nice edge.

Maticulously scraping it off with an x-acto knife worked pretty good. Slow. But good.

was none taped off?
Chrome may no longer be 'Purdy' after the whole frame was blasted
to prepare for powder coat adhesion.
