Pivot seat keeps on moving!!

Hey all, I have just brought a new bike and it has come with a pivot seat. The first or second time riding the bike, the seat moved and went really loose. I tightened it up as much as i can and then went out for another ride, the seat did the same thing.. What can I do?

Take back to the dealer and warranty or swap it for a rigid post.

If you want to try to fix it yourself try removing the clamping bolt completely and grease the threads then put it back in and try tightening it again. Also it can sometimes help if you wiggle the saddle when the clamp is just barely snug so the clamp jiggles itself into place so it can clamp the parts together more accurately once you tighten the bolt the rest of the way.

I'm also not familiar with what you're calling a "pivot seat". The clamp at the top of the seat post that holds the saddle is supposed to pivot when loose to allow adjusting the saddle's angle. I'm guessing this is what you meant but the proper name for it is the seat post clamp.

It may be worth opening up the clamp and taking a look inside. There should be two toothed surfaces which mate with each other - the teeth keep them from sliding around when the clamp is tight. I recently replaced a seatpost on which the saddle would occasionally and unexpectedly "pop" to a different angle (sometimes with painful consequences!). Inside the clamp I discovered that most of the teeth had been worn away or rounded off. In that situation, the only thing to do is replace the seatpost.
