Upgrading from Shimano 5600 to 5700 shifters.
I am thinking of upgrading from my Shimano 105 5600 shifters to the new 5700 shifters because I like the idea of the internal routing of the cables. I saw a new pair of 5700 shifters on ebay without the cables and was wondering if the the 5700 shifters will work with my 5600 cables. Wasn't sure since the 5700 has internal routing, and if I just need to buy extra cables for the new shifters. Thanks.

Installing new shifters w/o replacing both the cables and housing makes little sense. Regardless of the other reasons for replacing the cables/housing, I doubt your current cable housing will be long enough to route under the bar tape. Is your hesitation to replace these due to the added expense? Will you be paying for installation?

I found 5700 shifters on ebay being sold without the cables. So I wasn't sure if i needed to buy new cables for the shifters, or if I could just use the cables that i already have with my 5600 shifters. Added expense was is not the issue. I just figured if I already have cables why not use them. I think you may have answered my question. Since I will be routing under the bar tape I guess I would probably need to buy new cables anyway for the added length. Thanks.
