DT shifters installation problem

I have put 105 7-speed shifters on the DT bosses on my Peugeot, but they are 'double-jointed' - i.e. they can move beyond parallel to the DT, and face forward towards the front wheel. They don't 'lock out' at the correct position parallel to the DT.

I am sure I have done something stupid when I screwed them on.... anyone know what it might be? Am I missing a washer somewhere perhaps....? Thanks in advance, as always.

Simon

I think I might be missing the curved washer that goes between the shifter and the DT....

I did this same thing once. You'll need basically any one of the various curved washer pieces that go on with the little squarish stop pointing forward on the down tube. They came in various "curves" to align with different down tube diameters...I know because I have a few sets that appear to be made for various sizes of frames.

Most bike shops probably have some of these laying around in old parts boxes. The old style piece used to be a simple washer with a square hole and bent little tab to act as a stop. Search the rivendell silver shifter part to see an example of that:

you need part #6 here:
