Carbon frames can have hidden problems, de lamination etc..

Is this just the frame, the frame and fork or a complete bike? I agree that carbon frames can have hidden problems such as crash damage you can't see without a professional inspection.

My top offer would only be $150 - $200 for the frame or frame and fork and then only after a careful inspection including rapping on all of the tubes to see if there were any obvious problems.

Keep in mind Trek's "Lifetime" warranty only applies to the original purchaser.

I highly doubt the frameset will end up in your hands for that price. That's kind of low-ball. If you seriously want it, gonna need to up that offer.

Edit: There is a 09 Trek Madone 5.2 pro frameset on ebay right now...current bid is $800.

eBay should not matter. I have seen idiots bid on used items at prices you could buy a new one for.

We all know that ebay fetches higher prices and sometimes they exceed what a particular item should sell for - this is nothing new. However, I still feel you can gain some perspective of fair market value on an item through ebay. I was not implying that the frame the OP is looking at is worth $800 - it's just a similar comparison.

I would value an '07 Trek Madone frameset somewhere in the $400-500 range - of course, this is heavily dependent on condition/usage.

I sold a slightly damaged one for $300 once! And the buyer was fully aware. If you are serious about it and serious about riding, I would offer him $500 if it hasn't been ridden over 5000 miles and is in good shape, no problem.
I had to re-learn how to walk once, but never needed to re-learn how to ride a bike. Cyclist for life.
