Vintage/retro bottom bracket spindles supplier - need just one asap

Hi guys. I am the guy with the vintage 1972/73 Falcon Sam Remo designed by Ernie Clements.

I need to get the spindle for the BB, can someone please tell me which one I need as I bought one i from USA and it was totally the wrong size..

What info can I give you so you can let me know the one I need...

The one I got has to much play, when its tightened on it just moves about...

Without measurements your request cannot be processed, and if you remove your spindle to measure it, there's a good chance you'll be able to fix the problem without buying a new one.

There is a chart of traditional spindle dimensions here.

Most people use a replacment cartridge style BB unit such as Shimano UN series.

MichaelW gave you a link with a picture of a spindle showing what you need to measure along with standard sizes. Go there, measure what you've got and figure out what you need. If you figure out the size and need help sourcing, I'm sure you'll get help. Without the size, there is no way to recommend anything.

Hi. The problem is, I stuck new crank arms on - sachs or something, and they had a deeper fit (if that makes sense) than the previous vintage cranks.....

Guys if I get the said measurements do you think you can advise me please**********?? O where I can get it from????

You know there are two standards for the taper size on the ends of those things. My tandem (bloody old French parts) has the same issue, the last owner spent 30 years not quite tightening the cranks on the spindles properly to prevent the crank from rubbing the bottom bracket How they didn't crack is beyond me (yes, they did ride the bike). I ended up fixing the issue with a couple pop can shims, but I would NEVER condone doing that on a bike that wasn't your own.

Read the ISO/JIS section here:

Then find a real mechanic and take a chill pill.

Heck, take one anyway.

Besides, you may be trying to solve a problem you don't have.

Okay, the new arms sit deeper on the taper. So what? Are they too deep? Is there an interference problem? If so where?

Hi the problem is this....

With the new spindle, when I tighten up the bearing cups, there is about 1cm of play in the spindle.... it just moves about...

The only reason I am not 'chilling' is because I have sold the bike now and need to send it off asap as the guy has already paid for it..

Ideas guys???

tell the buyer about the BB problem, and offer a rebate, to send as is.

Hi that isn't entirely fair, he has bought this bike and due to me buying the wrong part, it isn't working, I can not send faulty goods, it wouldn't be right to lumber this problem on him...

Please - can someone advise me on how I can sort this, I have read the links and still I am clueless as to what to do....

Devoid of any details , brand of crank . pictures lacking.. no help possible..

Take it somewhere someone can see what you are talking about,
since you have not offered any but broad generalities.

no mind reading on computers yet.

You could end up paying $25-35 for a bottom bracket overhaul (inspection, cleaning, ball replacement, and new grease) or $35-50 for a new sealed bottom bracket (labor + parts). Or they might just remove the cranks, tighten the cups a bit, and forget to write you a service ticket.

From the tone and content of your questions, this appears to be a repair that you've never done before and the appropriate tools would cost more than having a pro do it.
