Water bottle cage mounting on older steel frame no braze ons

Title says it all. I'd like to mount 2 water bottle cages, also accomodate a pump clamp that bolts between the frame and the cage. Any ideas?

Thank you

you can use plastic ties to do both jobs. you can buy these at any hardware store. you'll need the 8 inches ones .

They used to make this nice little alloy clamps for water bottles and if you look around you might find some... they look a lot better than hose clamps.

I have a bunch of them as I ride a lot of vintage bikes that don't have braze ons and sometimes I have wanted to add an extra cage to a bike.

Sixty Fiver, I was thinking the same thing.

Here is an even more comprehensive page for options:

I'd second the wire ties. Colors to either match or accent the bike. Cheap and effective.

Riv Nuts are the best solution, and not hard to install if you have the equipment, and not impossible to install without equipment.
I shot this video recently when I was putting Riv Nuts in the end of a cheapo suspension fork for fender stay mounts.
I've just recently gotten into the Youtube thing, and haven't done a bottle cage install since, but next time I do, I'll video it and put it up.
( I'll also try to learn to keep out of the way of the camera during filming.)

Thanks. Next time I do one, I'll show alternative methods of installing them without the tool.

Great! Nice vid, Dan. Glad I happen to have the tool. I've been wondering how well the rivnut thing worked. I read a while back over the net that they didn't hold up well to all the jarring around with a water bottle in the cage and all. So, this works pretty good, huh? I've got several frames......some don't have any mounts for cages and others only have enough for one. I'd like to try this.

OH, plus now I can mount some fenders on a suspension fork! Cheers....

Disclaimer. Please don't go drilling into a suspension fork unless you know you are drilling into a vacant space. This is really only suitable for a real cheap spring fork like the one in the video.
Properly installed Riv Nuts are very sturdy. No worrys about a bottle cage shaking them loose.

I was sure you did, but I don't want to put it in anyone else's head that might see it that they can just go poking holes in fork lowers without some idea what they were doing.
