What size bolt for Trek Madone 5.2 seat post binder

I looked through the manual and on line and searched the forum and can't find this answer. There are two different torque specifications for the seat post binder for Trek in manual. Apparently there is an M5 and and M6 bolt used for Trek. I am trying to determine which bolt I have in my 2011 Trek Madone 5.2 seat post binder so that I know the correct torque settings. Can anyone tell me? Also, how do I find this type of stuff in the future? Is there somewhere I can find the sizes for bolts, nuts, etc.?

Thanks, Eric

ask dealer that sold the bike? if you get a 5mm bolt and a 6 mm bolt,
any length difference of size in diameter and thread pitch should be obvious.
visual compare with what is in the bike

mount cage of water bottles are usually 5,
the bolt thru the top cap of the headset, usually a 6.

Thanks, tried LBS and they weren't sure. I will look at the other bolts you recommended. I am almost sure it is an M5. I am surprised that you can't get a listing of sizes either in the manual or from Trek. Bike manual is not model specific, however, and that is the problem.

Trek's in the habit of printing the maximum allowed torque right next to the bolt head, so take a look right there on the mast. For a 2011, I believe it's 7 N-m maximum, with threads greased (5 seems to get the job done with grit paste between the mast and frame) and the bolt should be M5x0.8.
