6 year old (but brand new) bike ADVISE PLEASE!
Hello, I recently bought a bicycle from a friend, it is 6 years old but has never been used and has been kept indoors the whole time so it is pretty much brand new. However I am worried that it being unused for so long it might not work properly. So will I need to fix it up at all? or will it be ok?

Check the tires for cracks and give the brake pads a once-over with some sand paper.

It should be fine. Bikes get wrecked when they're stored outside for long periods, or in places that have a lot of moisture (basement, attic, maybe even garage.)

Picked up a pair of new-in-box 1992 bikes last year. Assembled them, checked wheels for true, adjusted brakes and shifters, aired up tires and started riding. 6 years is nothing.

The grease in the hub and headset can dry out over time and provide no lubrication but 6 years shouldn't be enough to cause that. I once got a nearly unused bike that had sat for 12 years and the bearing grease was the consistancy of dry rubber cement. Riding it like that would have ruined it.
If it were mine I'd ovehaul all the bearings but that's just a precaution and probably not necessary at this point
