Very stiff, rigid chain
Hi everyone,
So I rode my bike in the snow, then left it for a few months (woops!). Now I go to ride and the chain is very rigid and will not turn when I peddle. I cleaned it with water, removing a bunch of rust+dirt. Then I dried it. Still won't go. Should I oil it, and then will it go?? I just have to go to the store and buy some lubricant. Any other tips?? Thanks! |
Oil it, if it is still stiff (which it probably will be), replace

Argh!! :(
How much would that cost? Thanks for the reply |

Thanks again! Glad it's cheap.
I have access to a chain tool :) |
You will need to make the new chain have the same number of links as the old one.

If it's not too badly rusted, spray/soak it with WD40 or PB Blaster. Those will free it up. Then oil it.
If it's rusted, replace it. They're cheap enough. No sense getting hurt when it snaps on you (I've had this happen to me, twice.) |
