Removing Shimano BB-6500 Bottom Bracket

I am trying to remove a bottom bracket. I am using a spline removal tool on the end of a long-armed torque wrench to get leverage. I can get the non-drive side cup out, but the drive side cup is stuck tight.

I am worried that if I keep at it I will strip the splines of either the cup of or the removal tool.

Short of dragging it down to the LBS, any suggestions on how to release it?

Ian

1. use something to hold the tool into the splines so it can't get out. Pedro's makes a tool that does this, but you can probably improvise...

2. Now that the tool's not in danger of coming out of the splines, keep adding leverage until you get it to turn. And if it's an English-threaded one (which is most common), remember that the driveside is lefty-tighty, righty-loosey (reverse-thread).

Verify that you're turning the cup in the right direction as well.

I am going to assume that it an English bottom bracket.
The right side is left hand threaded. You turn the wrench clock wise to loosen it.

Italian thread, Both sides normal.

I like the idea of using a bolt to hold the splined tool. Will try it,

Thanks.
