help removing Sugino GP crank and bb (pics inside)
I have an older Sugino GP crank I am trying to remove. It's been feeling wonky for a while now and want to remove it and possibly do some maintenance on it. The farthest I have gotten is removing the crank arm bolts with a regular 14mm socket wrench. My other bikes have newer hollowtech/gxp cranks so I know I don't have the right tools to remove the crank/bb on this Sugino. From what I've gathered on the web is it might be a square taper, and that I will probably need this tool: http://www.parktool.com/product/univ...d-cranks-cwp-7
and probably do this to it: http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-...e-spindle-type here are some pics: http://img.imgur.com/SKX0Vl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/BNkBf.jpg am I correct on these assumptions? any help would be appreciated. :) |

+1. The trick with "nut-type" BB spindles (as opposed to the now-more-common "bolt-type") is to unscrew the handle from the piece that threads into the crankarm completely. Thread the outer piece into the crankarm, then the handle with the attached pin. When it contacts the end of the spindle, start tightening down. It can take a surprising amount of pressure to get the crank to come off.
