Is there? I'd like to use light drop bars and a twist shift on a Fuji Ace 20.

According to the Fuji site, it has 25.4mm bars, which is a standard for drop bars.

https://2010.fujibikes.com/Kids/Road/Ace20.aspx

Have a feeling you mean riser not drop bars, is this what you mean? 27.2 isn't a common size for handlebars, they are normally 25.4, 26 or 31.8 with 22.2 for BMX

Right, I do mean 25.4 bars. I really mean drop bars that are made of aluminum and not steel which taper down to 22.2 at the ends. I have a Salsa Poco but I can't slide on the twist shift.

You've just added a few more problem then.

The Poco is 31.8, so you would need a new stem, assuming that the Ace 20 is stock

No twist shifter will fit drop bars, unless run at the ends, due to the problem you have encountered as they can not get past the bend in the drops.

you have a few options for drop bars, bar end shifters, down tube shifters (won't fir on this bike), or STI Brifters, this is a childs bike, would a childs hands be big enough to cope with the handlebar and brake lever designed for adult bikes?

You'd also have to shave down the ends because the grip area diameter is different. Way back in the day Gripshift had a road model. I'd guess that 7-speed is as high a cog count they went, however.

I don't know of any drop bars that have MTB grip diameter.

There are some really cheap bikes that employ split road bars that are held together by a wide stem. This allows them to slide the shifters on each side so that they reside on the tops then insert each side of the bar into the stem.

Seems kinda scary. Dunno how scary it is in practice.

Sometimes you will find grip shifters on vintage drop bars. Picked up this bike yesterday. I think these are six speed.

If you want something mounted near the tops of the bars, you are better off with thumb shifters.

This bike originally came with DT shifters.

A clever solution, the HubBub Bar end adapter, it goes in the place where a bar end shifter would.
but the end of the tube is machined down to 7/8".. M22.2, to slip the grip shifter over.

Those bar end Grip shifters are made for only the gear speed count
of the years they were made, 20 years in the past.

There are several other very clever solutions for people
who want to combine the Rohloff Hub on a road bar, road bike..

the tidiest , a whole new grip shifter, same double cable setup,
Also German, machined much larger ID, so as to pass over
the curves of the drop bar and sit in the center, near the stem..

I believe drop bar ends for flat bars are MTB diameter. Haven't checked with calipers though.

Oh yeah, forgot about those by Origin 8. No clue what the grip diameter is myself.

So I decided to try something. I thought I could disassemble the grip shift, slide it piece by piece onto the handlebar, and reassemble it around the top of the bar. Nope. The barrel part which twists still doesn't clear the bend on a 25.4 steel drop bar that tapers to a 22.2 at the ends.

Now I can't exactly figure out how the thing comes together again.

My first reassembly of a Gripshift SRT600 had to have taken at least 2 hours. I can do it in about 15-20 minutes now, though.

Good Luck.

Soma's Lauterwasser bar, not a traditional drop bar but a similar concept and is 22.2

I have a set on my commuter. They are 22.2mm.
