How do I reassemble a Shimano 5700 cassette?

I didn't know that my 5700 cassette would come apart when I took it off my wheel.
When I reassembled it, I had somewhat poor shifting on the smaller cogs.
I took it apart again, and I want to reassemble it correctly.
I found a diagram on Sheldonbrown.com.
I am assuming that all cogs & spacers should have the labels (stamped numbers) facing up.
Am I correct?
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Peter

Or you could take a photo of the parts all laid out in the order that you reassembled it and numbered and someone may beable to tell which parts to switch.

The problem is that I didn't do that the first time.

It's only possible to assemble one way, if you are doing this on a freehub. If you look at the splines on the freehub, there is one that is thinner than the others.

Put the 1mm spacer on the freehub to start with, then the 3 largest rings, which are rivited together. then the smaller rings and spacers, in largest to smallest order, with the ring number facing towards you (up). finish off with the lock ring to 40Nm.

If you are still having issues, look at you chain or rear derailluer, are the setup / in good condition.

The only thing I'll add is: 1mm hub spacer, Three largest cogs, next largest cog, cassette spacer, next largest cog, cassette spacer......

My point is that the cassette spacer does not come in-between the 3-spidered rings and the next largest, but after that, the spacers have to come in-between the cogs until the spacers are used up.

If you go to the Shimano web site, navigate to the 105 groupo pages, then the clusters. Somewhere near the upper right will be some links to the tech sheets in PDF format. They will show an exploded diagram of all the pieces and what order they go onto a spindle.

Easy enough to just post the link. Here ya go.

https://bike.shimano.com/publish/cont...-.cs_road.html

The two one-page PDF files are listed under "Technical Documents". Grab em both.

Are you using enough torque on the lockring? The smaller cogs can shift poorly if the cassette is loose. It needs to be tight.
And there should be a 1 mm spacer at the back of a 10-speed Shimano cassette.
