Hey guys, just got a couple of old braze on super record shifters. They were very cheap since someone had sanded one side of them and done a d.i.y pantograph job on the sanded side. So my question is, is it possible to fill in the pantographed lettering with Aluminium filler and polish it back to a nice smooth finish?? Thanks a million for any help.

What is this aluminium filler you speak of? Epoxy with ally dust in it? I doubt you'll get a finish that looks more like metal than paint.

IMO you'll only get a decent result if the whole face is covered. If you just fill in the lettering, you'll still be able to see it.

either : Get some that do not have the pantograph in them. ,
pass them on to someone who just wants Functional parts.

or : there were Rubber covers that fit over shift and QR wheel levers,
Plastidip liquid for tool handles should work .

I've got a set of levers, sans pantographing if you want. They are missing the lever stops so I consider them a "rebuild" kit. Looking for what I got in them, $25.

Hmmm, I thought it might be possible to use aluminium brazing or somethingto cover the pantographed side and sand/polish it back but perhaps not. Thanks for the offer canopus but I'll see what I can do with the ones I've got. They were less than $10 and already corrupted by the previous owner so I don't feel too bad about altering them further. I'm going to try reversing them so that the defaced side will be facing downwards. It shouldn't bother me to much if I'm not looking at it every day.
