Can the coaster brake on this Nexus Hub be deactivated?
I have this on my tricycle and want to transfer it to a single-speed bike.
But I don't want the coaster brake. Is there any easy solution to this? Thanks http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Nexus-.../dp/B000C19206 Or is there a way to purchase an internal with a freewheel sprocket? |
take it apart, remove the reaction arm, that connects it to the frame ,
perhaps.. No personal experience having done this, to that product. Internals gear hubs incorporate a freewheel mechanism in them, then to change the gearing range, all you swap is 1 sprocket, typically held in place with a snap ring. Most 3 speed hubs have the spline in common, by now, 3 tabs in sprocket, following standard set by Sturmey Archer 100 years ago. |

Why are you using a three speed hub to build a single speed bike? You might be better off going with a non internally geared hub with a standard single cog freewheel.

I read OP as putting a 3 speed on a single speed frame,
BTW, the dropout width is what in the 2 wheel bike? I'd just leave the 3 wheel trike alone.. buy/build a different wheel for the soon to be 3 speed bike. |

Now Shimano IG hubs, like, go to 11 [speed].
