Kestrel CSX Xt OR xtr E type front derailleur

I picked up this bike with no front derailleur.. only a E type is going to fit it.. the seat tube is shaped funny.. it's a carbon bike..
Will a XT fit it? or do I need a XTR?
I don't know what the difference is.. except the XTR is $60 more money..
thanks for any help.

What year? Everything I can find for 1993-1995 shows/says clamp-on. Remember that MTB front deraillers clamp really low on the seat tube. It doesn't have to be round for very long to work.

Whichever derailler you pick, make sure you get the correct pull (top or bottom) and ideally you'd match it to the chain you are using (8/9/10 speed). If you are running 8 speed, the newer XT and XTR stuff may have too narrow of a cage to work well with a wide 8 speed chain. Something lower end or checking eBay would be your best bet for a high end 8 speed MTB front derailler.

thanks.. I think I have to fork the money over for the XTR.. Kestrel has a pdf specifying it.. and E types are hard to come by
except for online.. I'll post some pics when i get it finished

E-type FD's didn't exist when the Kestral was designed (basing this as a 1993 ish bike), and also need a bolt point on the frame.

Googling pictures of the CSX shows them with a clamp type mount.

this is the first thing that comes up when I google kestrel csx front derailleur
http://www.kestrelbicycles.com/Kestr...6ef0d28893.pdf
there is no hole in the frame.. I bought the frame with no derailleur..
I'm not sure of the year.. I'll try writing Kestrel.. thanks Dwight

Yes, 34.9 mm (aka 35 mm) is the clamp diameter and it is a very common size.
