Help! Dura ACe 7900 Cassette on Mavic Wheel

    Hi Guys,

OK I give up. What am I missing here. I'm trying to put on a new Dura Ace 7900 10 speed cassette onto a 2010 Mavic R-sys wheel. All of the gears fit on, but there is extra space to fill. When the 11 tooth cog goes on it won't make contact with the rest of the stack. The one spacer that goes in the stack is there, and all of the gears seem evenly spaced. The little thin spacer that is suppose to go on a 9 speed hub isn't the answer. Is there a spacer that I don't know about that goes on before the cogset?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Nope that is the answer. You need the 2mm spacer to go with the 1mm spacer that comes with the cassette.
LBS should have one or whoever sold you the wheels should have given you one.
They come with wheels when new.

Thanks guys. I'm off to the LBS tomorrow. 2mm + the 1mm that comes with the cassette.

    Thanks,
    Tom

Two questions about spacers w/ Mavic wheels and cassettes and spacers:

Do Sram and Shimano 10 speed cassettes come with a 1 mm spacer- or is it only Shimano 10 speed cassettes?

Is the 2 mm "Mavic spacer" used with both 9 and 10 speed cassettes? In other words, the 9 speed cassette uses only the Mavic spacer while the 10 speed uses both?

    Thanks

SRAM 10-speed cassettes do not need the 1mm spacer so they don't come with them. Only Shimano.

The 2mm Mavic spacer is for SRAM and Shimano 9- and 10-speed cassettes on Mavic hubs. If you're running 9-speed on a Mavic hub, use only the Mavic spacer. If you're running 10-speed Shimano, use both.

Thanks. I have a mavic rear wheel that has had both Sram and shimano 9 speed cassettes on it. I couldn't remember if it has the spacer or not, it must because both cassettes worked perfectly. I might be putting a SRAM 10 speed cassette on it, and just wanted to know what I might be getting into. Sounds like it will be plug and play (no additional spacer needed)

Not all Mavic wheels need the spacer. It may depend on how old they are. I've had 4 Mavic wheelsets that did not need the spacers. I know that many do need it because Mavic cassettes are wider than Shimano's or SRAM's.
