Which front derailer?

Hello,
Do I want a top swing or bottom swing front derailer? I can't tell which type I have now (Shimano C101). I ride a Trek 7300FX. (Rear derailer is Deore; upgraded crank is a Sugino triple.) I want to move up to a Deore LX.

Also: does the diameter size make a difference? Mine is I think 1 3/8" or maybe 1 1/2". Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks, Sydney. A Deore LX front derailer (at nashbar.com for 17.95). Chainrings 46/36/24. Why do the chainrings make a difference?
