Grip Shif 2 Front Derailleur

I'm rebuilding my Sram Grip**** 400, I can't get the shifter to twist properly. I can rotate the shifter clockwise fine, but I can't seem to get it to shift counter-clock wise. I can only install the spring in one direction so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong I'm replacing my cable and housing, and the shifter worked fine before I disassembled it. I realize there is on grease, I wanted the pictures to look good and adding grease didn't help. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you certain you have the spring in correctly? I'm not sure if this applies fro your model but check out the sketch on page 17.

When assembling a grip shifter, I prefer to sit the spring in the base of the shifter ( the opposite piece from your photo) and VERY GENTLY 'shake' the two pieces together with the cable fitted. Normally the shifter doesn't feel right till I have it attached to the bars with the cable under tension. A bit of trial and error will get it sitting properly. I have broken one of these before by being forceful and impatient, so be careful!
