Bikes: Had a Surly Cross Check - was totaled in recent accident. Sadly now just a Fuji Crosstown as a backup bike.

This was alot cheaper than some counterparts. I'll probably do this like once every 5-10 years, so will this do? It is for a steel fork. I doubt I'll ever own carbon.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Other than spending that much for a tool you'll use less than once in a blue moon, no. Crown setters are simple tools, not much more than a nicely faced pipe, you use as a slide hammer.

If you're really not going to do this more than once a year, you're better off bringing the fork and crown race to the bike shop and paying them $5.00 or less to tap it home.

Nothing wrong with the tool, but I've always used an appropriately sized piece of PVC pipe and a hammer. Can't ding up much of anything with a plastic tool.
